Name: Express Finish in Mauve Diamonds
Brand: Maybelline
Size: 10ml
Price: €8,59

From Maybelline’s website:
– Wet to set, 40 seconds!
– Chip-resistant nail colour
– Ultra-precise Control-flow™ brush for a quick application
– Available in 13 fabulous shades and 3 finishes: Pearl, Lacquer & Diamonds

What I liked:
– shimmery finish
– the price

What I didn’t like:
– very sheer, needs lots of coats for color to cover nails
– chips soon even with a top coat
– takes a while to dry
– runny formula
– shimmers are hard to remove

Maybelline Express Finish nail polishes are available in 3 finishes: pearl, lacquer and diamonds. I purchased one of the Diamonds Polish, Mauve, as I thought the color looked pretty in the bottle and I like polishes with shimmers in them, but after using it once, I forgot all about it. Then, last week, while going through my stash, I came across this shade and decided to use it again. And instantly regretted it. I had forgotten how much I dislike this polish. I can’t talk for the other finishes (Pearl and Lacquer) but the Diamond one isn’t good at all.

Mauve Diamonds looks like a lovely mauve/purple shade with lots of gold shimmers in the bottle. Sadly, that doesn’t translate on the nails. Hadn’t been for the gold shimmers on my nails, it was like I hadn’t applied anything. No color showed up at all. So, I applied another coat, and another, and another and things improved but only slightly. After 4 costs, you could still see my nails underneath. I tried applying a few more layers (and lost count after a while) but I could never achieve a full opacity so I gave up. But at least the shimmers are pretty so I guess if you like shimmery but sheer colors, you may like this. Everyone else, avoid it.

The formula’s not much better either. I find it to be quite runny, so if you’re not careful you might end up applying too much, which can make application a bit tricky and uneven. But thanks to the shimmers, even if you don’t do a perfect job, the flaws aren’t that visible, really. I think the shimmers are definitely the best thing about this nail polish, as they also make your nails sparkle but, once you remove the polish, they just go everywhere!

The polish also claims to dry in 40 seconds, but that’s not true. I don’t know if it is because the formula is so runny or because I applied too many coats in an useless attempt to get decent coverage, but it took quite a long time to dry than most nail polishes usually take. And it’s not cheap resistant either. After three days, it had chipped pretty badly and I had to remove it, and that was with a top coat. Without, it’d probably last much less.

Available at: Maybelline counters

Summary
Overall, I don’t like Maybelline Express Finish Nail Polish in Mauve Diamonds. The only good thing about it are the shimmers that makes your nails sparkle and help disguise the flaws that may have occurred due to the runny texture. Also, the color is very sheer and you’ll never gonna get a full opacity (unless you probably apply the whole bottle), takes a bit to dry and chips easily.

Rating: 2/5

Anastacia, it is a pretty shade once you get it to show up. I lost count of how many layers I applied to do the swatch above. It’s a shame as it looks nice.

Aww, this makes me sad. I really wanted it to work out because that color is awesome. I just can’t tolerate a thin nail polish.

Trisha, I was disappointed too. I can’t stand thin nail polish either. The color is very pretty but the formula just sucks. :(

That’s a pretty color! I love glittery nail polish but taking it off is not fun at all. I’m sorry it’s thin for you. It’s annoying, isn’t it?

Dao, yep thin nail polishes are so annoying. I don’t know what it takes more in this case, to apply it or two remove it *sighs*

Stavroula, I like shimmers in nail polish but I understand they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, especially since they are hard to remove. Too bad the formula of this one is crap though, the color is pretty indeed once you layer it a dozen times.

oh yeah, they’re hard to remove too!! I ordered some china glaze nail polishes recently and I was very careful when choosing the shades, as I didn’t want any shimmery ones! lol

The shade looks really pretty in the bottle. I love shimmer with regard to eyeshadow, nail polish (though I don’t use nail varnish very often) and lipstick lipgloss. But it’s sad that it doesn’t work perfectly though your nails look really cute and even with it.

Mylanqolia, I love everything shimmery too. Thanks. It doens’t look too bad after you applied a dozen or more coats. Thing is, you shouldn’t need that much to get a good application *sighs*
