Name: Lipstick in Purple Rose
Brand: Fior Di Magnolia
Size: 3,5ml
Price: €3,99
From the packaging:
Shiny lipstick, with a sensual wet-look, which makes your lips appear fuller, with a shiness that lasts. Its very rich and soft formula gives extreme comfort for a lightweight result that dresses your lips with an intense color.
What I liked:
– creamy texture
– quite moisturizing
– good color payoff
– average staying power for a lippie
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– if you have dry lips, this may feel a bit drying
– need to reapply frequently
– the scent
– the packaging is way too big!!!
I’ve already briefly talked about this lipstick in a past post to rant about the packaging (more on that later), but now it’s time for a full review. I have to admit that, because Fior Di Magnolia is a supermarket brand, I didn’t have high expectations for this lipstick, but it’s actually really good. And so affordable too!
The shade I choose is called Purple Rose, which I think it’s a bit weird since it looks more like a brownish pink. I don’t even see purple undertones, at least not when applied on my lips. But anyway, the lipstick has a slightly shiny finish and a good color payoff. One coat will give your lips an opaque but soft color that’s very safe and would suit most skintones. But of course, you can always apply another layer like I did in the swatch for a more intense look that’s still very wearable for the office and any other occasion.
The texture of this lipstick is very creamy and glides on smoothly on the skin without settling in fine lines and accentuating them. On my lips, it felt pretty moisturizing and comfortable, but if you have dry lips I think it would be better to still wear a lip balm underneath. The staying power is average for a lipstick: it lasts about 2 hours before you need to reapply, and that is if you don’t eat anything. If you do it’ll disappear sooner.
In all honesty, I’d be really tempted to repurchase this if it weren’t for one thing: excessive packaging! I mean, just look at the photo above! The box this lippie comes in is big enough to contain at least 4! Instead, it only includes one, which is kept in place by a plastic holder, producing even more waste. I don’t care if this stuff can be recycled. First of all, not everyone recycles, and second, it’s much better not to produce waste in the first place.
I just can’t bring myself to buy again from a company that obviously doesn’t care about the environment. If they were scared people would use the full size products as testers they could have simply sealed them or used a normal-sized box that would fit the lipstick perfectly like high-end brands do. But a box this big has no use bar that of polluting the environment. Oh, and that scent is not that great either. Too strong and sweet for my taste, although it disappears pretty fast once on the lips.
Available at: Eurospin supermarkets
Summary
Overall, Fior Di Magnolia Lipstick in Purple Rose is a beautiful pinkish brown lipstick that’s creamy, fairly moisturizing and pigmented. The shade is safe and wearable but needs to be reapplied every two hours. The scent is sweet and strong but the biggest con is the huge box this lipstick comes in. There’s no way to justify it and it only produces waste.

OMG! I have a déjà-vu! The extra packaging is similiar to the one of the supermarket cosmetic lines in Germany!

Mylanqolia, really? Maybe they’re made by the same company. I really wish they got rid of it though, it’s way too big!
Yes, Penny, Aldi and Lidl have also cosmetic lines with huge extra packaging. But I don’t think that the same company produces them as there are different producers mentioned on the outer package. Penny and Lidl cosmetic products are produced by Dobner Cosmetics and Aldi stuff is produced by Dr Scheller Cosmetics that also makes Manhattan Cosmetics. I assume that it’s a law or clause with regard to hygienic standards that the brands add the packaging. Who knows… But it’d be interesting to know the true reason for it, to be honest. Let’s investigate it!

Mylanqolia, I didn’t know Lidl had its own cosmetics line. I never saw their cosmetics here, although the only Lild in my town is pretty small so that could be why. Mmm, I find it weird that they all use so much packaging yet they are made by different companies.. maybe you’re right and there’s a law or something that requires so much extra packaging. It still bothers me though. High-end makeup comes in boxes but they are only big enough to find the product, not huge that could contain several of them.. It’d be interesting to know the real reason though…
