Name: Lip Paint in #53 Coral
Brand: Barry M
Price: £4.25
From Barry M’s website:
With over 30 shades to suit every mood and taste from softly shimmering pastels to vibrant colours. All Lip Paint’s have a soft, beautiful smooth texture that is packed full of natural moistures to help them glide on and stay comfortable to wear for hours.
What I liked:
– lots of beautiful colors to choose from
– pigmented
– creamy texture
– glides on easily
– doesn’t have a scent
– sleek packaging
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– not very longlasting
– hard to get outside the UK (you can only get it online)
As you all know, Barry M is one of my favourite makeup brands. Their products are pigmented, come in practically ever colour under the sun and are so inexpensive. I just wish they were more easily available worldwide. But thank goodness for online shopping so that I can still get my Barry M fix whenever I want. And one of the latest purchases from this brand is their Lip Paint in #53 Coral.
The Lip Paints are available in more than 30 shades and because I love corals but hardly have any coral lipsticks (what can I say? I prefer glosses), I went with #53 Coral and, while I love the lipstick, I’m not too fond of the shade. Coral is a pinkish coral shades with strong orange undertones. While the shade itself is beautiful, I’m not too keen on it cos I don’t think it looks good on me. Because I have pale skin, anything with orange undertones is hard for me to pull off really. Bright oranges I can do, but subtle ones or orange-toned products just don’t work for me. Go figure.
But just because I picked the wrong shade for me, it doesn’t make me like this lipstick any less and I look forward to trying other colors. What I love about these lipsticks is that they are very pigmented and just one swipe is enough to get great and opaque color payoff. Despite this, Coral is a soft shade which makes it very wearable for daytime and the office.
The Lip Paints, which are packaged in a sleek and beautiful black tube, have a lovely texture: it is creamy and the lipstick glides on easily on the lips, making them soft and pretty. I also find the texture quite moisturizing. Not as much as my beloved Lancome lipsticks or those of other high-end brands, but still pretty good for a drugstore product. That is thanks to Ricinus Communis (the main ingredient), also called Castor Oil, which is used to make lips soft and bind moisture in.
Castor Oil can have a slightly sticky feeling when applied sometimes, but I find that this isn’t the case with this lippie. Other moisturizing ingredients include Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil) which, despite its totally undeserved bad reputation, is one of the most moisturizing ingredients available, and Octyldodecanol, an emollient that moisturizes lips and makes them soft. Other ingredients include waxes to give form and structure to the lipstick.
However, like all things in life, this lipstick isn’t perfect. For me, its only con is its short staying power. Well, to be fair, it may not last long on the lips (about 2 hours), but not less than most lip products out there. I have to reapply every now and then, and even though I wish it lasted a lot longer, I don’t really mind too much. Oh, and did I mention this doesn’t have a scent? I actually prefer non-fragranced products (and I hate those with a strong fragrance) so this is a big plus for me.
Available at: Barry M website and Asos
Summary
Overall, I love Barry M Lip Paint in #53 Coral. Although the color is not very flattering on me, it is pigmented, creamy and doesn’t dry out lips. Scent-free and inexpensive, it comes packaged in a classy black tube, but the staying power is only average.

I personally don’t think it looks bad on you!

Stavroula Plag, aww thank you!
that looks like a really great color for summer! I personally can’t pull off orange lips
Connie, it is a very summery shade indeed.
And I can’t either.
It’s a lovely color. I can only wear soft coral lipsticks. You may want to layer this lipstick with a brown lipstick to see how it looks. Coral is in this summer.
Dao, if you can wear soft corals, then I’m sure you could rock this.
I’ve never thought of that. I’m going to try it now, I’m curious!
there is a chemist in sydney carries this brand and i recently swatched lots of its dazzle dusts and lip paint. the testers of the lip paint felt dry on my arm so i didn’t buy any. you said it’s very moisturising? do you have dry lips? if not, i may want to give #53 a try as the chemist do have this colour and it looks so lovely on your lips too.
thanks

Jojoba, lucky you, stock up on them! I find the texture of coral quite moisturizing but then I don’t have dry lips. But before purchasing, I read some reviews and a few mentioned that some of the shades felt dry, so I don’t think they all have the same texture. From what I read, the brightest, most pigmented shades feel a bit drying, while the softest, more natural ones like Coral are moisturizing.
thanks for the advice. this was just what i needed to hear as i don’t like brigh lip colours. i will surely try them again. i need more dazzle dusts anyway.

Jojoba, you’re welcome. If you’re interested in the softest shades, I think you’ll like these.
it is such a subtle and sweet color, but same as u and connie, i look weird with orangey lip color too
Xin, the color’s pretty, it’s a shame you can’t pull it off either. But the Lip Paints come in more than 30 shades, so I’m sure we’ll find something that works for us too.
Wow!! When I saw this shade on your lips, my instant reaction was I WANT this too. That’s such an elegant orange-coral shade. The kind of shade which I feel is very versatile, for day or even for a casual night out, well, I might use it for the latter!

Vonvon, it’s beautiful, isn’t it? I agree with you, it’s soft and elegant and perfect for any occasion.
It looks very nice! I feel the same way about orangey products, but find they often look great paired with a pink gloss on top, you could try that?
I’ve been meaning to try some barry m, but never got around to it. What are your very favourites from that brand? Products and shades, please!

Pinch, thanks for the tip. I’ll try that and see if I can manage to pull it off better with a gloss. I love Barry M products and so far, I’ve liked everything I tried from them, but my very favourites must be the Dazzle Dusts and Nail Paint.
The Dazzle Dusts are loose eyeshadows with great pigmentation. Of course, like all pigments, they can be a bit messy but I think their quality is great and they come in so many colors. It’s hard for me to recommend some shades as there are more than more than 60 to choose from! But if I had to choose I’d say Kingfisher (a bright medium blue) Aqua (aqua-teal color), Khaki (one of my all-time favourites, a beautiful dark green color with lots of shimmers). For more natural shades, I’d go with Mushroom (a beautiful taupe), Tan (a pink beige color) and Bronze.
I’ve recently discovered their Nail Paints and they apply smoothly and with most of them, you can get away with only one coat. Definitely check out Pink Flamingo (beautiful shade for summer) and Mint Green. I also like their blushes, but they are VERY pigmented. If you wanna try then, I recommend Pink Orchid or Rose as they should be easier to pull off. Hope this helps.
I love this color! It’s great for summer. Where could I find Barry M products?
MACaddict, it’s a very pretty and summery shade indeed. You can buy Barry M products on their official site (barrym.co.uk), asos.com and Panasiabeauty.com. I think they all ship worldwide. Hope this helps.
