What I liked:
– soft texture
– glides on smoothly
– quite moisturizing
– average staying power for a lip product
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– not very pigmented
– like with most lipsticks, you need to reapply it often
– strong scent
As my regular readers know, I’m not a lipstick person (unless it’s Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Rose Petal, I simply adore that one), but while browsing the Essence counter I came across this lipstick in Glam Girl and the shade in the tube looked too pretty to skip it. Unfortunately the tester was missing so I didn’t get to try it in store but I figured, with such a cheap price, it wouldn’t hurt my wallet to try it anyway.
Glam Girl is a glossy coral pink shade with tiny iridescent shimmery particles for a dazzling effect. Essence describes this lipstick range as color intense but I beg to disagree. I can’t speak for the other shades as I haven’t tried them but Glam Girl isn’t very pigmented and even if I layer it a few times, I only get a slight hint of color on my lips. But at least the shiny effect the shimmers give my pout is very pretty.
The lipstick has a soft texture that glides on the lips like a dream and doesn’t dry them out. Unless your lips are really dry, I don’t think you need to use a lip balm underneath as Glam Girl is quite moisturizing when worn on its own. Not many lipsticks can do that and this one tastes yummy too! I wish the scent was delicious too, but it smells really strongly of bubblegum. I don’t really like it and I think a lot of people could be put off by this so smell it in store if you can.
Like most lip products, Glam Girl doesn’t last long on the lips. That little hint of color it gave disappears in less than an hour and all that’s left on the lips are the shimmery particles, so your lips will still dazzle. Actually, the shimmering particles stay on the lips for hours and you may still find some near your lips after removing everything with a cleanser!
Summary
Considering the lack of pigmentation and how moisturizing this is, I think Essence Lipstick in Glam Girl is more a tinted lip balm infused with shimmer than a lipstick. The staying power is average and the strong scent is awful but it tastes delicious and is very inexpensive too.

Anastacia, I like to think of this as a tinted lip balm as it is so moisturizing and works well that way. But as a lipstick, it is disappointing how sheer it is.

Tisha, that’s why I like to consider it a lip balm. The pigmentation is too disappointed for a lipstick and if that’s what you’re looking for there are lots of better options out there.
The shade is not strong but I love the moisture it gives to your lips!!!

Vonvon, I agree about the scent. I don’t think a lot of adults are gonna like it, it’s too strong and sweet.
I like Essence products, they are really good for the price. Of couse, every now and then you stumble onto a product that’s just average but then, that happens with any brand.
