What I didn’t like:

– the price
I’ve always wanted to try Elemis products after hearing bloggers and celebrities raving about them, but their price tag is not very wallet-friendly and I’m not one to splurge on expensive skincare without trying a sample first. And the chance to try a sample came a few months ago when I received a small size of the Elemis Vitamin Rich-Body Lotion in a swap (that’s why I used a promo photo, sorry!). And even though at first I was really excited, I’m sad to say that my first encounter with Elemis was very disappointing.
The body cream is creamy white in color and has a very subtle and pleasant almond scent that doesn’t last long. Its light texture sinks in easily and absorbs quickly, but as I was fearing, it’s not moisturizing enough for dry skin. The skin of my body is very dry and finding a lotion that keeps it hydrated all day is really hard (so far the only one that does the trick for me is The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter), but this must be one of the worst things I ever used. The lotion made my skin soft and smooth but only for a few hours, forcing me to reapply several times throughout the day.
Now, I don’t think this cream is all bad. If you have normal skin that doesn’t have any concerns or oily skin that needs a lightweight moisturizer and you don’t mind forking out £23.00 for a luxurious body lotion, this may be worth considering. But I don’t think this cream is anything special and it certainly doesn’t work any better than most drugstore body lotions that retail at less than half the price. And for those that like me have dry skin, this won’t do anything at all.
As for the Vitamin Rich name, well, the main ingredients are all synthetic emollients (make skin soft) and humectants (attract moisture from the environment and prevent water loss), while the natural ingredients and Vitamins are all listed towards the end so their concentrations are too small to do anything. The only exceptions are Almond Oil and Wheat Germ Oil, but all they do is simply moisturize skin. Basically, there is nothing in this product that justifies the high price tag.
I can’t really comment much on the packaging as I didn’t try the full size bottle and I don’t think I ever will. But I like that the full size product is packaged in a tube with a pump dispenser which is more hygienic than a jar.
Summary
Overall, Elemis Vitamin-Rich Body Lotion is just an overpriced average moisturizer. While I think it will work well for those with normal to oily skin, it’s not hydrating enough for dry skin that needs a lot of moisture. For them, the moisturizing effects of this lotion will fade soon, leaving them to having to reapply it often.
