Name: Kajal pencil in Teddy
Brand: Essence
Size: 0.04oz/1g
Price: €1,49
From Essence’s website:
Thanks for its longlasting formula, this kajal pencil will give your eyes a more than special touch.
What I liked:
– beautiful shade, perfect for everyday
– creamy
– glides on smoothly, no tugging
– pigmented
– not brittle
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– not very longlasting, unless you use a primer
You know me, I’m a cheapskate. I can easily pass up the Dior counter without a second glance, but when a new inexpensive brand opens up a counter here I can’t help to get excited. And when late last April, I went into my local shop to find out they had finally added an Essence stand, I had to restrain myself from squealing and jumping around like a mad woman! (Yes, it doesn’t take much to make me happy lol).
Once I managed to calm down, I had a proper look and purchased a few things. The one I liked the most was the Kajal Pencil in Teddy, a beautiful brown shade with reddish shimmers that is very wearable and safe for every day, yet the color isn’t boring and adds a nice glowy touch to your eyes.
The pencil has a very creamy texture that glides on like a dream (no tugging at all!), leaving an even and opaque line on the eye. And because it is very pigmented, there is no need to layer it to get decent color payoff. Also, it isn’t brittle and it doesn’t break easily when you sharpen it, which can easily happen with some cheap eyeliners.
I’ve used the color both on my lids and waterline and it was very gentle and didn’t irritate my eyes. It didn’t smudge nor smear but it didn’t stay put for the entire day either. The pencil claims to be long-lasting but sadly, I found that’s not that case. Not only it disappears fast from my waterline (not too bothered about that as most eyeliners don’t last long there), it completely fades from my lids after only a couple of hours if I’m not wearing a primer.
I was gutted about that as my lids are just slightly oily, but I guess for the price (which you just can’t beat), I shouldn’t complain too much. You still get a creamy and pigmented pencil that only needs an eyeshadow base to last all day. I’m already planning to get this in other colors and I have my eyes on the neon yellow shade (not a shade you come across often!).
Summary
Overall, I love Essence Kajal Pencil in Teddy. It is a creamy and pigmented pencil that glides on smoothly. Unfortunately it doesn’t last long on its own but the problem can easily be fixed by wearing a primer underneath. Oh, and it’s very cheap too!

Liners…..do they come in other shades as well?

I have this pencil, it’s a beautiful colour
The blue kajal liner you sent me is really smooth, I like it very much. I find kajal liners to be smudgy, even with eyeshadow primer. I use it on my lower lash line and it’s so beautiful! Like you, I have no qualm for no end cosmetics. I can’t justify spending too much money on makeup.

Vonvon, yes they do. They come in black, blue, purple, even neon yellow
Negra Cabreada, I’m glad you like the color too. It’s so pretty, isn’t it?
Dao, I’m so glad you like it. I love how easily it glides on and the colors are beautiful. I rarely use kajal liners, but so far, the last long with a base on me. I guess I’m just blessed with not very oilu lids.
I agree with you. High end makeup is good but very overpriced and I can’t bring myself to buy it unless it’s something I really need and while use a lot. Plus, it feels so good and rewarding when you manage to find an inexpensive product that works just as well as a high-end one.
Thanks for the review. About 2 years ago I bought a black kajal from Essence, it doesn’t last that long u are right but what I also didn’t like was that it was too creamy and I had a hard time applying it. For my waterline was OK but in rest I didn’t like it.

Tavia, the eyeliner is one of the creamiest I tried buu I actually liked that. I thought it made application really easy, at least for me. I’m sorry you had trouble with that. Have you tried putting it in the fridge to harden it?
Yay, you can also profit from the purse-friendly pices!!! It’s weird that you had to wait ages for it but anyways, you can buy Essence items now. Thanks for the good review. I fully agree with your experiences. A primer is a must otherwise the colour runs, especially on oily skin. I’m very happy with all colours but my faves are the longlasting eyepencils (except for the pink one as it contains glitter particles and the mint one as the colour payoff is average) as they stay on my waterline for a long time. So, you should also try them, dearie!

Mylanqolia, Essence had a few counters in big cities here for months/years, but it’s only recently they’ve started to expand everywhere which made me very happy. I haven’t tried the longlasting eyepencils yet but they already were on my wishlist and now I can’t wait to try them even more! It’s so hard to find an eyeliner that lasts long on the waterline so I think I’ll get a few colors next time I go to the counter, thank you.
