Hello everyone,
I hope you are all having a very nice day. In more than 12 years that I’ve been wearing makeup, I have never used only one eyeshadow for my eye makeup. When I first started, I only used a couple so that I could practice with blending and color combos, but the thought of using just the one never crossed my mind. I mean, what can you do with only one shade?
Some very pretty looks, as it turns out. In the end, in fact, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to do a look (a bright one of course
) using only a green eyeshadow: Barry M Dazzle Dust #75 Lime. The look is very simple, but because I used different brushes and strokes to apply the shade in each different spot, the intensity of the color is different and I look like I’m wearing three different shadows instead than the same pigment. And when I told people that I did the entire look with only one eyeshadow, they just couldn’t believe it!
Please, excuse the bad pictures. The lightening was horrible when I took them, so the blending doesn’t look too good and it shows more color on the browbone area than you actually saw in real life, but still you get the general idea. And if you don’t like green, you can still do this look using any other color of your choice. Here’s the look:
Products used:
– Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer
– Barry M Dazzle Dust #75 Lime
– Pupa black pencil liner
– Wet n Wild Kajal & Eyeliner in white
– Maybelline Volum’ Express Cat Eyes mascara
Directions:
– Apply a sticky primer like Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer all over lid to create a base for the pigment to better adhere to the lid.
– Using an eyeshadow brush with dense bristles, pat a lime green shade (I used Barry M Dazzle Dust #75 Lime) on the lid. This way you’ll pack a lot of color on the lid and the shade will look very bright.
– Take a crease brush and apply the same color on the crase blending back and forth. The color should now be darker.
– Now, with the same brush you used before, apply the hint of color that should still be left on it on the browbone to highlight. Remember not to add color there.
– Apply a black pencil liner on the lid and a white one on the waterline to open up the eyes.
– Finish off with mascara.

We do have similar ideas, don’t we?
I mean….I have been encountering eyeshadows which are so pigmented(from different brands) that with each swipe, I get a lighter and lighter tone of that one shade. So its like 1 product, but you get different shades. been meaning to do some EOTDs with them.
But been having a pretty busy time again with family matters…. and with so many backlogs…hence, didn’t get to do those EOTDs I have planned.
Nice bright green! Will link to ya when I do those EOTDs.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s a one color look! I did something similar with MAC Golden Olive and it is also unbelievable! I guess green e/s are easier to work with.

Nice look! I sometimes wish you’d post full-face pics to show the whole effect of the look, but I understand the privacy issues etc that go along with that. And it is nice to see a detailed picture of your expert blending
Cool colour and awesome result!
That’s hot and amazing you only used one color!

That with one ONE eyeshadow colour? I don’t believe it! The result looks so nice, isnt it? The only thing I have to tackle is, different blending & stroking techniques. sigh~
(did u use the Maybelline mascara I sent you for this look? ; )

Vonvon, great minds think alike hehe. I look forwards to seeing your EOTDs hun but I understand you’re busy. I hope everything is ok. And thanks for the link love, I appreciate it.
Some eyeshadows can be very versatile, can’t they? I was very surprised to see how different this shade looked when applied with different techniques.
Dao, it’s surprising what you can do with one color, isn’t it? When I decided to try it my expectations weren’t very high, but when I finished, I was like wow, who knew a one shade look could turn out like that? I’d love to see the look you did with the MAC Golden Olive pigment
Wow…green eye shadow again….this is one of those two colors (the second one is blue) that I never use in my makeup.
I have green eyes the same as you, but I’m afraid of green eye shadow….dunno why.

J, thank you. You’re too nice.
I plan to post full-face pix in the future, but at the moment I’m using a foundation that reflects a lot of light and as a result, my face looks white in pictures. Like I’m wearing the wrong shade of foundation when in real life is almost a perfect match. I’m a bit embarassed to post that but if you girls don’t mind it, I guess I could give it a go.
Ahleessa, thank you. And I know, it’s unbelievable it’s an one eyeshadow look isn’t it?
This looks great! Very St. Patty’s Day appropriate =)

Hanna, yep, I used only one I swear! Even I was surprised at how a single eyeshadow can look so different applied with different brushes and motions. Aww and bless hun, learning the different techniques isn’t too difficult. I learnt the various ones from youtubes videos and blogs and then practiced a lot. I’m actually still practicing cos I don’t think I’m that good at blending.
To really pack on the color on the lid you need a stiff dense brush like the MAC 239 or ELF eyeshadow brush and just pat the color on without blending. On the crease, simply put your brush (like the MAC 217 but the elf one would work too) on the eye socket and blend back and forth. It’s very easy once you get the hang of it
And yes, I used the mascara you sent me for this look. I’ve actually been using that a lot lately cos I love it, thank you! I’m in the process of writing a review about it too
Tavia, I think you could say I’m obsessed with green eyeshadow lol. It’s my fave e/s color and probably the one I use more often. I know what you mean about being scared of this color though. According to the “rules” you shouldn’t wear an eyeshadow that is the same color of your eyes but I think makeup should be fun and one should wear what they want, so I don’t follow the rules. Plus, I think it stil looks pretty, although maybe it’s best not to overdo it like I did with this look lol
Fabulessbeauty, thank you!
Wow, great blending job! It needs a lot of practice doing a monochrome eye make up and honey, you got the skills to do it! Btw, I’m happy that you haven’t chosen a boringly brown pigment.
.-= Mylanqolia´s last blog ..Good news! =-.
Mylanqolia, thank you. I don’t really like brown shades, I find them so boring and I was pretty sure a one color look would have been pretty boring too so I went with my favourite eyeshadow color: green. And I kinda like how it turned out. I think I need to try again with some purple or blue too.
By the way, I’ve had time to play with my makeup this weekend and so I came up with a bright orange and yellow look with a touch of blue and a more natural, wearable look with a winged eyeliner. I hope to post the pix in the next couple of days, so stay tuned
