Product Review: Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Jones

Name: Eyeshadow in Jones
Brand: Urban Decay
Size: 1.5g
Price: $17

From Urban Decay’s website:
We load the shadow with color, and add very few binders (the stuff that holds shadow together), resulting in beautiful color that blends easily and lasts. Lots of finishes to suit your mood: sparkle, shimmer, duotone or un-sparkly satin.

What I liked:
– silky texture
– nicely pigmented
– easy to blend
– no fall out problems
– very wearable
– long-lasting

What I didn’t like:
– the packaging
– small size
– the price

If you’re looking for a wearable orange that isn’t too bright or clownish, you should check out Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Jones. It is a medium, warm-toned, orange shade with golden undertones and a subtle shimmer that is very versatile.

It may look a bit scary in the pan, but one layer provides a subtle wash of color on the lid that can easily be built up for more intensity to achieve the color you see in the pot. It looks very flattering on medium skintone or on women with a nice tan, while pale beauties may find it harder to rock, but it’s still doable.

I like pairing Jones with other warm shades like golds, bronzes and browns as it compliments them very well and it can also be used as a transition color to blend out any harsh lines between the crease and browbone areas.

The texture is silky soft, glides on smoothly on the skin and blends effortlessly without any fall out problems. And its staying power is quite impressive too. Without a primer, it lasts about 8 hours on my slightly-oily lids before it starts to crease and fade.

I’m not sure how I feel about the packaging. It comes in a grey plastic compact with an edgy design and a window in the middle so you can see the color inside. Although I find the compact creative and different, this is not really my style. Also, I don’t think it will appeal to older ladies while teenagers would probably love it.

The pot, however, is quite small (it only contains 1.5g of shadow) and the price quite high, so that’s something to take into consideration before purchasing. I’ve got mine from Cocktail Cosmetics for only £4.95 ($7.46), but if you’re gonna pay retail price, then you’d want to make sure to get a shade (among the more than 50 available!) that you know you are going to use a lot.

Summary
Overall, I like Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Jones. It is a medium shimmering orange that gos on sheer but can be easily be built up if you want a more intense color. It is longlasting and has a soft texture that is easy to blend. However, the pot is tiny and the price expensive.

Rating: 4/5

Been looking for an orange shade eyeshadow which won’t make my eyes looks sleepy or dull…after all, my eye lid area isn’t exactly fair like my cheeks, for example.

Thanks for sharing this, Gio. On my to-check-it-out list the next time I am near an Urban Decay counter….don’t know whenver that will be…;)

I agree about the price, which is why I rarely buy eyeshadows from Urban Decay. But personally I love the packaging :)

That’s a lovely orange! I do like orange eyeshadows very much. I haven’t been particularly fond of UD eyeshadows. the textures are only alright for the price

I’ve wanted to try an orange eye shadow for a long time and I really like this shade! But I agree with you about the price – I’m cheap when it comes to single eyeshadows :P

Vonvon, you’re welcome. Do check it out if you have the chance. It’s a very versatile shade with subtle shimmer that is very wearable and warms up the eye area.

Simone, I like UD eyeshadows, they have a great, silky texture and are great quality overall (although I’d like them more if they were a little bit more pigmented), but I don’t think they’re worth the retail price. But there are a few sites online which sell them at discount prices so I buy them from there only.

Connie, it’s a beautiful shade, isn’t it? It looks even prettier in real life. I like the texture of UD shadows, it’s soft, not powdery and doesn’t give me fall out problems, but for the price I expected a bit more too. But if you manage to find them at discounted prices, they’re a great deal and worth every penny imo.

Rebecca, if you’ve never tried an orange eyeshadow, this is the perfect shade to begin with as it’s so wearable and not too bright. Like you, I can’t bring myself to buy expensive single shadows, but there are lots of places online that sell this at cheaper prices. I paid mine only $7.46, which was a great deal. Just do a search online and if you manage to find it, give it a go. :)

I love UD eyeshadows! They are the bomb… hehe~ How can you pull this off? I request EOTD using this eyeshadow. :)

The color is not that appealing to me but WOW WOW WOW wassup with that prize? I mean $17 and so little product inside? Here I’ve seen in Sephora only the Holiday packages with Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners and they are still on the shelves cause nobody will pay 40$. I understand now why they are not available in my country, people here would not buy them.

Ahleessa, I know it can look hard to pull off in the swatch. I had to apply 2 or 3 layers cos one was sheer and the flash washed that out. But if you apply this sheer, it is actually very wearable, esp if you pair it with browns and golds. I’ll do a FOTD so you can better see what I mean :)

This colour is WOW! It looks awesome, but I doubt I could wear it – I’m one of those paler ladies. What do you like to pair it with?

Tavia, I agree with you about the price. UD eyeshadow are nicely pigmented and have a very nice texture but the price is too high for such a small pot. I love these shadows, but I would never pay retail price for them. As for their eyeliners, I adore them, but $40? No wonder people wouldn’t buy them. What a shame, though.

Pinch, I have pale skin too and oranges aren’t the easiest colors to pull off for me either. I usually pair it with yellows and browns. Like today, I used yellow on the inner half of the lid and Jones on the outer half and crease, over a primer to get better color payoff. Also, I like to use gold shadows in the inner part of the lid, Jones in the middle and some warm brown shade in the outer corner. Worn like this, it looks flattering on pale skin too. I think the key is not to overdo it. If I use it all over the lid, for example, it doesn’t look too good but just a touch here and there really warms up the eye area. :)
