New Collection: Kiko Electric Town Spring 2010

Posted by beautifulwithbrains | February 28, 2010.

When I first saw the promo pix for Kiko Electric Town collection I couldn’t help but fall in love with the makeup the model’s wearing. The colors are so bold and bright and so me! The collection itself doesn’t disappoint either. It features a mix of colorful and natural shades so that anyone is bound to find something that appeals to them.

I usually tend to skip Kiko limited edition collections cos the prices are a bit higher than those in the permanent line but this time I’m hooked. I already have my eye on the Makeup Fixer (been looking for a decent cheap one for ages), the eye palette in Harajuku Aquamarine (the colors look so pretty and bright) and I’d love to give the blush a try too. Do you see anything below that’s appealing to you?

Know Your Ingredients: Collagen

Posted by beautifulwithbrains | February 27, 2010.

What it is
Collagen is a group of proteins (there are more than 25 types!) that supports bodily tissues like skin, muscles and bones. Collagen, together with Elastin, gives skin structure, flexibility and strength. The type used in cosmetics comes from animal sources or from plants derivatives that act as collagen.

What it does
When used in topical products, collagen can’t stimulate collagen synthesis. That’s because its molecules are too big to penetrate the skin which is what it’d have to do to produce collagen.
Instead, collagen sits on top of the skin and moisturizes it. It is a good water-binding agent that holds moisture in and hydrates skin.

Side effects
Collagen is considered to be safe. However, it can’t replace the collagen the skin lost or stimulate its production, like marketing claims imply.

QOTW: What haircut have you always wanted?

Posted by beautifulwithbrains | February 26, 2010.

What haircut have you always wanted?

Beautiful with Brains says: I’ve always wanted the famous Rachel haircut that Jennifer Aniston wore during the first seasons of Friends. It looked so good on her. I didn’t get that haircut because at the time it was so popular everyone wore it and I didn’t wanna look like anyone else. I think you should wear was suits you, not what’s trendy. And that’s another reason why I never wore my hair like that. I don’t think it’ll look good on me.
