Know Your Ingredients: Benzyl Salicylate
What it is
Benzyl Salicylate, also called benzyl 2-hydroxybenzoate, is a clear and colorless liquid. It has a floral aroma.
What it does
Benzyl Salicylate adds fragrance to a product.
In addition, it is used as an UV light absorber. UV light absorbers scatter, reflect or absorb UV rays, thus preventing products from going bad. In haircare products, they also protect hair from UV rays.
Side effects
Benzyl Salicylate can cause irritations, sensitization and allergic reactions.
Looks: Winter Sky
Hello everyone,
today’s look was inspired by the dark and gloomy winter sky covered by grey clouds bringing either rain or snow. That’s what I see every time I look out the window. I really hate this weather and am so tired of being cold ALL the time!
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like it will get better anytime soon, so while waiting for spring to finally arrive, I decided to play with the colors of the winter sky and this is what came out. Hope you’ll like it
Products Used:
– Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer
– Sleek Curious eyeshadow palette (white)
– Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips palette in Smokey Green Eyes (grey and black)
– Pupa black pencil liner
– Wet n Wild Kajal & Eyeliner in white
– Maybelline Volum Express Cat Eyes Mascara
Directions:
– Apply an eyeshadow primer (I used Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer) all over lid as a base to make the makeup adhere better and last longer.
– Apply a white shade (I used the one in the Sleek Curious palette) on the inner lid and inner crease. Swipe some of it on the browbone to highlight and, with MAC 219 pencil brush, apply it on the inner lower lashline too.
– Swipe a medium gray shade (I used the one in the Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips palette in Smokey Green Eyes) on the rest of the lid and on the crease and blend to soften any harsh lines. With MAC 219 pencil brush, apply some on the outer lower lashline too and blend where it meets with the white shade.
– Apply a black shade (I used the one in the Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips palette in Smokey Green Eyes) on the outer V and blend.
– Line your lid with a black pencil liner and your waterline with a white eyeliner.
– Finish off with mascara.
A blast from the past: last January on BWB
It’s Friday, at last! It’s time to relax and look back at some of my fave posts from this time last year:
What is mineral makeup?: a small guide about everything you always wanted to know about mineral makeup: what it is, what ingredients are used, benefits for the skin, how to apply it and more.
Product Review: Chanel Exceptionnel De Chanel Mascara: if you’re looking for a mascara that gives a va-va-va-voom, fake lashes effect to your lashes this is it. It’s expensive and the wand takes a bit getting used to but it adds both volume and length without clumping or smudging.
Skin Irritation or Allergy?: sometimes the ingredients used in cosmetic and personal care products can cause irritations and allergies. But how do we tell the difference between the two?
12 Ways To Use A Q-tip: q-tips are a very inexpensive, useful and versatile makeup tool we all have at home. Here’s 12 beauty tricks you can do with them.
Product Review: Bottega Verde Purifying Mud Face Mask with Olive and Wheat Extracts: an organic mask that cleanses and exfoliates skin, leaving it clean, soft and bright. It doesn’t cause irritations and the packaging can be recycled.
