by beautifulwithbrains on August 15, 2009

in ingredients

menthoxypropanediol

What it is
Menthoxypropanediol is a synthetic derivative of menthol.

What it does
Menthoxypropanediol is often used in lip plumpers. It works by irritating lips causing them to swell.
In addition, it is used as a fragrance to mask the smell of other ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products.

Side effects
Menthoxypropanediol is twice as stong as Menthol and is therefore twice more irritating.

This is interesting to know as I have always wondered what is inside those lip-plumping glosses that give me the tingling sensation.

Vonvon: I’m glad you find it useful. Menthol and camphor are used in lip plumpers too and work the same as Menthoxypropanediol, but are less irritating. I wrote a post about how lip plumpers work, you can find it here if you’re interested: http://beautifulwithbrains.com/2008/12/02/do-lip-plumpers-really-work/

Celeste: I am glad you find the post interesting :)
