Name: Eye Dust
Brand: Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics
Size: 3.5g
Price: $3.99
From Jesse’s Girl website:
28 spectacular shadows. Apply alone, combine with water or a light weight moisturizer to create fine lines and bold accents to intensify your gaze.
What I liked:
- lots of beautiful shades available
- easy to blend
- the packaging
- the price
What I didn’t like:
- not very pigmented and long lasting unless used with a primer
I was curious to try Jesse’s Girl Eye Dusts after haring raves about them. Now that I have, however, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not all that bad, but, at £3.99, you do get what you pay for.
The pigments are available in 28 beautiful shades. I have #560 Cloisonne Violet (Ultra Violet), a light shade of violet/purple with shimmers which aren’t too obvious. The color looks very rich in the jar, but when applied on naked lid, it is quite sheer. However, when used with a primer, the color is very pigmented, as you can see in the swatches below. This is not really a problem for me, as I always use a base anyway, but since MAC, Barry M and Makeup Masala pigments show up well on naked skin as well, I was a bit disappointed this doesn’t.

(First pix with flash, second without. Both one coat.)
The powder is very loose and blends well. However, if you have oily lids, it will quickly fall off. Again, the problem can be solved by using a primer. If so, it will stay in place for the entire day.
The product comes in a pretty and large round jar with a sifter, so you don’t make a mess when you open it.
Summary:
Jesse’s Girl Eye Dusts come in a large selection of colors, are very cheap and the packaging is pretty. Overall, they are a good and cheaper alternative to MAC pigments BUT only if used with a primer. In that case, the color is very pigmented and long lasting. But without a base, they just don’t work very well at all.

you know, this looks so much like one of my old La Femme Sparkle Dusts. Pretty purple, my favourite shade for eye shadows.
This is a brand I keep hearing about but yet to try as it’s not available here. But since you said it’s not very pigmented and long lasting unless with a primer, i may just pass it. Thanks a lot for the review.
yes, I’ve tried these, they look prettier with base for sure
I’ve heard about it but since all my drugstores do not carry Jesse’s Girl, I haven’t gotten around to try. You can try foiling it, most mineral pigments become much more vibrant when foiled.
jojoba: you’re welcome. The color is very pretty but you can’t really see it unless you use a base. I really like how they perform with a primer, but a good quality product would work well even without one. Jesse’s Girl products aren’t available here either, I ordered mine through the makeup mix shop. Personally, since they are really cheap, I would probably buy a couple more colors if they were available here. But otherwise, I wouldn’t go through the trouble of finding a way to get them online as they are only ok, but nothing special.
Nikki: I agree, the color doesn’t really show up much without a primer.
Dao: thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try it. But still, I can’t hlp but feel disappointed. Good quality pigments and eyeshadows would show up quite well even on naked skin and I don’t like having to experiment to find a way to make it work.
aww… I was expecting it to be super awesome
i’ll pass on this then. thanks for the review
The color looks so vibrant with base. It’s very affordable too. Thanks for the review.
Connie:you’re welcome. I was expecting the same too
It is good if usd as a base, but still it should perform quite well even without. Barry M and MAC pigments do afterall.
Cinthia: you’re welcome. The colors looks quite bright with base, but still it’s a soft shade of purple. It’s very pretty when used with a primer.
