What it is
Emu Oil is an oil obtained from the fat of the Australian Emu bird. Emu Oil is mainly made up of unsaturated fatty acids, like oleic acid (20%) and essential fatty acids like linoleic acid (20%) and linolenic acid (1-2%).

What it does
Emu Oil deeply penetrates all layers of the skin and has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties: it has been used for centuries by the Australian aborigines for treating burns, wounds and bruises. It reduces inflammation and redness of the skin and is a good treatment for dry skin.
Emu Oil is also an emollient: it moisturizes skin so the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines is lessened and helps relieve the symptoms of eczema.
Studies show that this oil also stimulates growth of skin, hair and nails.
In addition, it acts as a carrier oil, helping carrying other ingredients into the skin.
Emu Oil can also be used to remove makeup.
Emu Oil is said to be noncomedogenic. However, this claim comes from companies selling emu oil. I couldn’t find any scientific studies showing that Emil oil is noncomedogenic, but I also couldn’t find any saying it isn’t.

Side effects
Emu Oil has no side effects.
However, pregnant women are recommended to use only the pure type of emu oil (without essential oils). That is because some essentials oils should be avoided during pregnancy and it is actually best for safety reasons not to use any at all during the first months.

Jnie: emu oil is mostly used in Australia but it’s quickly spreading everywhere as it is such an amazing oil.

Camille: I’m glad you like it, emu oil is such a great ingredient!

jojoba: because it is animal derived, it may have a slight oil smell. But because it contains fatty acids and penetrats skin deeply, it is a great emedy for dry skin.

Lydia: emu oil is very famous in Australia but it’s getting very popular anywhere.

I saw it at my local health food store. Apparently, it’s one of Oprah’s favorite products at one point. It’s really expensive though, 1oz costs around 30 dollars at the health food store.

wow, that’s a lot! Most poducts containing emu oils tend to be expensive, but if you look around you’ll find some cheaper ones.
