DIY Beauty: 4 Toner Recipes

Many experts don’t think toner is a necessary step in skincare routine. A good cleanser is enough to remove all traces of makeup  and other impurities and the skin restores its ph balance by itself so, for some people toner, esp alcohol-based ones, can dry skin and do more harm than good. The only exception is oily or acne-prone skin: toner helps remove excess oil so these skin types benefit from using it.
However, many people, me included, like to use toner for its refreshing properties. But, instead of spending money on something that isn’t really necessary, you can make your own toner with a few ingredients you can find in your kitchen. Here a few homemade toner recipes for you to try:

1. Watermelon Toner

- 2 tablespoons of fresh watermelon juice
- 1 tablespoon of vodka
- 2 tablespoons of witch hazel

Strain the watermelon juice to get rid of all the seeds and pieces of fruit.
Put all of the ingredients in a bowl and stir.
Pour the mixture into a clean container closed tight.
Be careful not to make enough toner, as the mixture will last for about a week, but only if you keep it refrigerated between uses.

2. Rose Toner

- 3 ½ cups of witch hazel
- ½ cup of dried rose petals
- 5 sprigs of fresh rosemary

Mix all of the ingredients together until they are all well-blended.
Strain the blend and apply it on your face.

3. Honey and apple cider vinegar toner

- 5 tablespoons of warm purified water
- 1/4 teaspoon of honey
- 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
- 4 drops of lavender essential oil

Dissolve honey in warm water.
Add lavender oil to the apple cider vinegar.
Combine the two mixtures together.
This toner can last for about 6 months, just store it in the fridge and shake it before each use.

4. Green Tea Toner

- 1 cup of boiling mineral water
- 4 teaspoons of loose green tea leaf

Steep the tea for about 10 minutes in boiling mineral water.
Pour it into a spritzer bottle and refrigerate.
