Bar soaps clean well, are convenient to use and, because they come wrapped in paper, the packaging is easier to recycle. In addition, they’re usually cheaper then liquid soaps. However, they seem to deplete very quickly. Here are a few simple but effective tips to make your bar soaps last longer:
1. Dry the soap: the more moisture a bar soap contains, the faster it depletes. So, to make it last longer, you need to dry and harden it. Simply take the soap out of its wrapper and leave it to air-dry in a dry place (like a linen closet) for a few days before using it.
2. Use a soap dish: to avoid your bar from melting, you need to keep it away from water. When you’re not using it, put your soap bar in a soap dish. There are many types on the market, but some can keep your soap humid. You should choose a soap dish that allows for drainage, like a wire or self-draining one.
3. Use a washcloth: all that remains of your bar soaps are just little leftover pieces? Turn a washcloth into a string bag, so you can open and close it as you like, and put the little pieces of soap inside it. Use this handmade bag like you would the bar soap.

In the drugstore here they have that little mesh bad so you can out pieces of soap (or a big one) in it and hang the bag at the wall…
But soap usually smell funny when I was half way through anyway…
P.S.That it’s a cute piece of soap,
Citrine: I have many families using those meshes. but you can just cut of penti hose and use it.
I have too many bar soaps that I used to include in the swaps as extra. (Many of them are famous brands but I just don’t use any!) Now I use them for washing my undies… Don’t swap much these days.
Citrine: I never saw those bags here but then I live in a small city and we never get anything… They are really convenient but personally I’d rather do my own though as it’s cheaper.
I couldn’t resist buying the soap because of the pretty design, but I don’t really wanna use it not to ruin it. But I will have to.
jojoba: those make really nice extra. I usually include those 1 or 3mll samples as extra, but like you, I don’t swap as much as I used to as it can be a such a hassle at times.
Great tips! I find it helpful to keep my soap away from my showerhead – store it on the opposite side of the tub.
fabulessbeauty, that’s a good tip! The further away from the water, the better.
