Drinking a glass of lemon water every morning has many health and beauty benefits. It will rejuvenate and cleanse your body, give you a glowy complexion and make you lose weight too! All you have to do is pour some lukewarm water into a glass, cut a lemon in half, squeeze it and add a few drops of juice (about one or two teaspoons). But don’t expect overnight results. You need to drink it regularly to see the benefits.

Lemon contains minerals like potassium, calcium and magnesium and high levels of Vitamin C. Because of that, it boosts your immune system preventing and treating infections, helps healing wounds and diminishes allergies. It also has antioxidant properties.

Lemon water improves digestion by helping our livers to produce more bile and relieves digestive problems such as heartburn, bloating and constipation. It also cleanses the body by helping eliminating toxins and waste products. This is not only good for the body, but for your skin as well. In fact, getting rid of toxins will give you a healthy, glowy and not sallow complexion.

Because of its detoxifying properties, lemon water is also said to help lose weight. However, if you want to lose a few pounds quickly, this won’t do it. The effects are long term and you still need to eat healthily and exercise.

I am still skeptical about this whole “detox” craze. Do you have any scientific proof to back up the claim that lemon will help your body detox? Thank you!

A wedge of lemon makes water taste much better. However, drinking too much lemon is not good for the teeth as it can thin out the enamel.

Danielle

I think the anti oxidation comes from the Vitamin C from the drinking And it’s “detox” in a sense that drinking water is helps flush out the junk…it’s more like the liver doing the job with the the help of water…lemon makes it taste good though…

I like water spiced with some lemon, mainly for the aroma given y the peel though…actual lemon juice is boring…

jnie06: you’re right. Simple things can be so good for us and we often forget about it. It’s amazing what a glass of lemon water a day can do, isn’t it?

Danielle: well, I personally haven’t found any scientific studies on lemon water, but skincare experts recommend it because of the substances lemon contains. It’s been proved that vitamin C is good for the skin and that potassium is beneficial for people with heart problems for example. But the whole lemon detox diet is crap. There are no scientific studies that diet really work and I would never recommend it to anyone. Lemon juice is a natural diuretic and it will help you lose retained water, but not fat. Besides, an healthy diet and exercise are very important to maintin a healthy lifestyle. Lemon water can Help detoxify your body but if you eat lots of junk food daily then it’s not gonna do much, you know what a mean? It’s something that HELPS, but it doens’t make miracles. You can’t really solely on that to detoxify.

Dao: that’s right, thanks for sharing. You shouldn’t drink lemon water more than once a day (two at the max) and you should alwats wash your teeth after a few minutes. But if you’re really worried about ruining your teeth enamel, you can always drink it with a straw.

Cinthia: that’s too bad! But you don’t need to lose weight, you’re gorgeous! Lemon water helps lose retained water but it doesn’t do much for losing fat. If your weight is healthy, lemon water won’t help.

Anastasia: thanks :)

Citrine: thanks for sharing, you’re right. Vitamin C has antioxidant properties. And both lemon and water stimulate the liver in eliminating waste products more effciently.

You really should! it’s really good for your body and tastes yummy.

Thank you for clarifying that it’s more about the vitamins that are good for the skin and the water just helps your body do what it does naturally. The way that a lot of “detox” diets out there are worded, it can be very confusing to a lot of people and I am always skeptical because there is no scientific reason to detox! Your body does it on its own!

Exactly. All vegs and fruits contain vitamins and other substances that are good for the body but you should never believe any detox diet. Drinking only a glass of lemon water a day is only going to starve you. Your body needs all kind of substances (like vitamins, proteins, carboidrates ecc,) to work and these diets do more harm than good. If your lifestyle is healthy, then your body will function properly.

Hi Helena, drinking a glass of lemon water helps clean the body and improve digestion, but that’s all. Even though it is said to help lose weight, the whole lemon water diet craze is just dangerous! Drinking only a glass of lemon water a day is only going to starve you and make you unhealthy. Just eat healthily, exercise and drink a glass a lemon water every morning and over time, you’ll see the results.

drinking a glass of warm lemon h20 in the am – helps you flush out water- it has a diuretic effect and also helps eliminate waste- try it you will see. I believe it does have weight loss effect as well because it is fairly filling. I usually have a glass before breakfast and then eat about an hour later and my appetite is curbed slightly by the drink. I wouldn’t over do this as it is obviously pretty acidic

That’s exactly how it works. I feel kinda full after drinking it, which is a good think. But drinking too much of it can create too much acid in your systm and you don’t want that.

I started drinking lemon water a week ago. It helps me drink more water for one thing and I like the idea of getting the vitamins/minerals naturally.

Sissy Mae, I prefer taking vitamins naturally than supplements too, I think it’s healthier. And this is a very good way of doing it :)

Does the water have to be lukewarm? I do drink lemon juice in water now, but it is always cold water. Also, what about lemon juice instead of fresh lemons — does one still get the same health benefit?
Thanks!!

Hi Amy,

if you use cold water, your body burns more calories because it has to raise the water temperature, while lukewarm water is absorbed easier and faster. But personally, I don’t think that makes a huge difference.

Lemon juice is very beneficial too. It boosts your immune system, detoxyfies the body and improves digestion too.
