Our feet are one of the most strained and used part of our bodies. We walk thousands of miles and put a lot of pressure on them in our lifetime, yet we often neglect them. Taking proper care of our feet is very important and simple. Here’s a few tips:

Wash feet daily: use mild or antibacterial soap, rinse off and dry throughoutly.

Moisturize: apply a foot cream daily to hydrate skin and stop heels from cracking. Avoid using too much moisturizer in the area between toes as it can lead to infection because a moist environment is ideal for fungus.

Use sunscreen: if you’re going to wear sandals or flip flops, then you must apply sunscreen to your feet to avoid UV damage.

Remove hardened skin: this will not only make your skin soft and supple, but will also avoid hardened skin to eventually crack. To remove it, use a pumice stone on the side of your heels.

Trim nails: trim them straight across and don’t cut them too short esp at the corners or they may dig into the skin and become ingrown. If that happens, go to a doctor.

Shoes: always wear shoes that fit. Also, vary the height of the heels to keep you calf muscles flexible.

I agree. Very good tips. I wish I took care of my feet more than I do.

Thanks girls, I’m glad you find the tips useful. Most people seem to ignore their feet, at least till summer comes along. It’s a shame really as taking care of your feet is very easy and takes so little time.

well, at least you take care of them a bit, so that’s a good start :) not many people apply sunscreen on feet and I personally think it’s weird. We apply it everywhere else, so why not on our feet?

Please please also include to your readers not to wear flip flops all the time. I did it for 3 years straight and am now paying the price! Flip flops have no arch support, so they make your feet flat, causing plantar faciitis – a very painful condition. I am just now getting over mine.

I’m really sorry that happened to you. I hope you’ll completely get over it soon. Flip flops are really comfortable but should be used as beach footwear only. Because of the lack of support, feet are forced to make unnatural movements and cause healthy problems.
Thanks for sharing your experience, hopefully it’ll help other people not to make the same mistake.
