What is it
Lactic acid is one of the most effective AHAs (Alpha hydroxy acids). It is extracted from milk, although is usually found in synthetic forms in cosmetics. Lactic acid is also a substance produced by our muscles when we work out.

What it does
Lactic Acid is a skin conditioning agent. It retains moisture and hydrates and smooths dry skin. It is also an effective anti-aging treatment. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, appearance of age spots and stimulates collagen production.
Lactic Acid is a gentle exfoliator that removes dead skin cells.
It also adjusts the ph of products formulations.

Side effects
Lactic acid can be irritating.
It can also cause sun sensitivity, so it should always be used with a sunscreen.
