Honey has been used in skincare for centuries. Cleopatra was famous for bathing in honey and milk to keep her skin soft. Poppea, wife of Roman Emperor Nero, used a lotion with milk and honey on her face to keep skin looking young and Madame du Barry, mistress of Louis XV of France, used honey masks. Nowadays, honey is the main ingredient in a lot of skincare products because of its many benefits.

Because it is rich and thick, honey is a great moisturizer. It is an humectant and has therefore the ability to attract and retain moisture to the skin. It keeps skin hydrated and supple and smooths dry, rough and wrinkled skin.
Honey contains antioxidants, which protect skin from UV rays and free radicals, the main causes of premature aging.
It also has anti-irritant and anti-bacterial properties. It kills bacteria and prevents them from growing and helps heal cuts and wounds. It is a good treatment for acne and won’t dry the skin.

Here are a few homemade beauty recipes you can make with honey:

1. Moisture Mask
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 2 teaspoons of milk

Mix the ingredients and apply the mask on your face. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse with warm water.

2. Honey Cleanser
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 1 tablespoon of liquid soap
- 1/2 cup of glycerin.

Mix the ingredients. Then, using a sponge, apply it on your face. Rinse off with warm water.

3. Honey Face Scrub
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of finely-ground almonds
- 2 tablespoons of dry oatmeal
- some lemon juice (in alternative, you can use yogurt)

Mix the ingredients together and massage the scrub on your face. Rinse off with warm water.

4. Honey Hair Conditioner
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1/4 cup of oilve oil

Mix the ingredients and massage the mixture on the scalp. Put your hair in a shower cap for 30 minutes, then shampoo and rinse.

5. Honey Bath
For silky skin, simple add 1/4 cup of honey to your bath water.

Hi Vivienne, I think it depends on the recipies. Some require you to heat it up and others don’t. Personally, I never heat anything up unless the recipe states so.

when you do the honey mask when you mix the ingredients is it suppose to be so liquidy?

Reply

Well, it shouldn’t be too liquidy so that it runs down your face when you apply it. If that happens, it means that you used too much milk.
