What it is:
Dimethicone is a silicone based polymer used in a wide range of cosmetics, hair care and personal care products.

What it does:
Dimethicone is anti-foaming and skin conditioning agent. It is a moisturizing ingredient that forms a layer on your skin, sealing moisture into the skin and helping prevent moisture loss.
Not only it smooths the skin but It also protects it. A 2002 study also reported that dimethicone prevents certain bacteria from infecting the skin.
Dimethicone is the heaviest of all silicones used for hair care. It provides the most smoothing effect as well as forming a barrier that waterproofs your hair, locking in hair’s natural moisture and giving your hair some resistance against humidity. Improves combing and detangling, reducing hair loss and breakage.

Side effects:
Due to its occlusive nature, dimethicone causes pores to clog, which leads to pimples and blackheads.
May cause allergic reactions and irritation to sensitive skin.
