How to apply false eyelashes

Posted by beautifulwithbrains | July 31, 2008.

Long eyelashes make eyes look bigger and fuller, but not eveyone is blessed with them. However you can use false eyelashes to achieve that dramatic look and make your eyes stand out. If you have never done it before, applying false eyelashes can be tricky, frustrating and time consuming but follow this steps and keep practising and you’ll be applying them like a pro.

Step 1: before you apply the lashes, line your upper lashline with a dark eyeliner pencil and smudge it slightly. This will conceal the lash band.

Step 2: most false eyelashes are too long for most women, so they need to be trimmed. Measure the lashes to your own eye to see how they fit across the lid. Then trim off any excess from the outer edge. Also, trim the ends unvenly to get a more natural look.

Step 3: apply a thin line of glue to the base of the strip and allow it to dry for a few seconds before applying the false eylash to your own eyelash line.

Step 4: using tweezers or your fingers, apply the false eyelashes starting from the outer corner of your eye and work you way inwards. Press and hold the false eyelashes as close to your own lash line as possible.

Step 5: Fill any gaps between the false lashes and your natural lash line with eyeliner. If you prefer, you can use an eyeshadow as liner.

What do you think of false eylashes? Have you ever used them?

Product Review: E.L.F. Tone Correcting Concealer

Posted by beautifulwithbrains | July 29, 2008.

Name: Tone Correcting Concealer
Brand: E.L.F.
Price: 2.03€

From E.L.F.’s website:
Multi-tonal silicon treatment masks skin tone imperfections and redness, leaving skin with a healthy glow.

What I liked:
- blends easily
- hides dark circles and blemishes
- evens out skin tone
- doesn’t cake
- the price

What I didn’t like:
- not many shades available
- the fragrance

E.L.F.’s Tone Correcting Concealer is available in 3 shades. I purchased Fair, which is the lightest. Unfortunately, with so few colors available, not everyone will be available to find their match, which is a shame because this concealer is actually really good.

Application is easy. The concealer comes in a tube with a sponge tip applicator which delivers just the right amount of product. It is easy to blend.

The texture of this concealer is smooth and hydrating. It truly diminishes dark circles, conceals blemishes and evens out the skintone on my under eye area. It doesn’t cake and crease and it lasts for hours.

The concealer has a strong orangey fragrance. I don’t really like fragrances in cosmetics, but if you do then this scent is quite pleasant.

Summary:
Overall, this is one of the best concealers I’ve ever used. It hides dark circles and blemishes, evens out the skin tone, is easy to apply and doesn’t cake. And you can’t beat the price! I just wish there were most shades available.

Rating: 4/5

How to get inexpensive makeup

Posted by beautifulwithbrains | July 28, 2008.

We all like to look our best, but when it comes to buy makeup and beauty products, you can end up spending hundreds of dollars a year on them. Just think about all the products that you use daily: cleanser, toner, moisturizer, serums, primer, concealer, foundation, eyeshadow, blush, mascara, lipsticks, liners, brushes and so on. And most brands, like Chanel, Dior, MAC, Nars, Estee Lauder, aren’t cheap. Here’s a small guide on how to buy great makeup without going broke:

1. Go to the drug store: here you can find plenty of great quality makeup at cheap prices. Some of the best inexpensive brands are: Cover Girl, Rimmel London, L’Oreal Paris, Max Factor, Milani, Maybelline and Revlon. After all, this companies wouldn’t have stayed long in business if their products weren’t good.

2. Trade makeup: if you have some makeup and beauty products that you don’t use, you can always trade them and get new items in return. You can trade with your friends or with other beauty junkies online. There are many makeup forums on the web that also have a swap section.

3. Get a loyalty card: many stores, like Boots and Sephora, have loyalty cards. Anyone can apply for them for free. Every time you buy something in the stores, they give you points that can be used to get anything sold in these shops for free. They also let you take advantage of special offers reserved to loyalty cards members only.

4. Ebay: here you can find expensive makeup at very cheap prices. Some people are also selling makeup in big bundles. Ebay is also a great source to buy products there aren’t available in your country. However, be careful as some people sell fake cosmetics, so make sure you check their feedback before buying anything.

5. Go to stores that sell makeup as a side business: stores that specialize in makeup sell it for a higher price than stores that specialize in other things. Claire’s is most known for their accessories, while La Senza specializes in underwear but they also sell makeup. Their prices are cheap and they also have regular sales and promotions on their items.

6. Look for promo codes: if you’re going to buy online, always look for promotional codes, discount codes and vouchers before placing an order. These codes will give you a discount off the retail price.

7. Buy magazines: there are many magazines that come with makeup products, so make sure you look for them carefully the next time you go to a newsagents. Most of these magazines also have samples inside, so you can actually try a product before buying it.

8. Hold a makeup party: find a local representative for brands like Avon or Mary Kay and they will help you set up a makeup party. Makeup party hosts get lots of samples and a discount, too. The more your friends buy, the higher the discount, so make sure to invite lots of people. This is a great way to get lots of products at a cheap price and also have fun with your friends and maybe make new ones.
