From Asos website:

What I didn’t like:

Dainty Doll is a makeup range created by Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts. Nicola has very pale skin and she wanted to create a range for fair-skinned people like herself. She teamed up with Jelly Pong Pong and created the Dainty Doll Foundation. It is available in 3 shades: Ivory, Porcelain and White. You can buy in some UK stores like Boots or online at asos. However, this range was so successful the foundation has sold out in most places. The only shade left available at asos is white so if you’re interested in buying the product, hurry up! At the moment this is a limited edition, but I’ve heard rumours it may become permanent due to its success. I really hope this will happen as I really like this foundation.

I have very fair skin so finding a shade of foundation that isn’t too dark for me has always been a problem. Drugstore brands don’t make foundations for very pale-skinned people and I find that even high-end brands foundations are still a bit darker than my skin tone. That’s why I was so excited when this foundation came out. Finally someone created a special range for fair-skinned people like me. I purchased the white shade and I have to say that it is actually a bit too light for my skin. However I was so happy to realise that for the first time in my life I didn’t have to apply foundation on my neck or body as the foundation was the same color as my neck!!

It has a whipped mousse texture, something between a liquid and a power. If you have always used only liquid foundations like me, it will take a while to get used to the mousse texture, but the silky feeling is lovely. And the coverage is really good too.

Another thing I liked about this product was the price. 12£ for a foundation is not much. And the packaging is so cute!

The only thing I didn’t like is the small size of the pot. There isn’t much product in it which is why I only use this foundation for special occasions. If the range was permanent I would use it every day but since it’s limited edition I wanna make it last as long as possible.

Summary:
I’m in love with this foundation. I’ve finally found a shade that works for me and the coverage this product gives is good. And it’s quite cheap too! I only wish the size of the pot was bigger.

You’re welcome. Yeah, I was really disappointed with the size of the pot, but the foundation is great.

If you have fair skin, try Benefit’s Get Even powder foundation in their lightest shade (01 Light). I’m very pale and it’s the only thing I’ve found doesn’t make me look orange.

Thanks for the suggestion Anastacia. I will definitely try it after I’ve finished this.

Another review said it was very glittery. Is this true?

To be honest with you, the white shade has a bit of glitter, which is weird cos looking at the foundation in the pot you can’t see it at all. I didn’t even notice this at first so I wouldn’t really say it’s loaded with glitter. It gives my face a very natural effect with a little bit of shimmer, which allows me to skip using an highlighter. I’m not sure if the other two shades have glitter/shimmer as well as I haven’t tried them yet but none of the reviews I’ve read of them mentions it.

does anyone know if the range is perment now or still special edition ?

I know the range was supposed to be very limited edition and it sould out pretty quickly so they re-released the collection. I think as long as it keeps selling well, they’ll keep making it.

hi i have pale skin how do u know which colour to go for .

  12. beautifulwithbrains February 23, 2009 9:31 pm

Hi Ellie. The Ivory shade is really pale and is good for pink-toned skin, while Porcelain, which is slightly darker is for those with yellow-toned skin. Choose the white one only if you’re REALLY REALLY pale. I have that and is actually a bit lighter than my skintone.

Hi Sinead, the white is actually white.
